A 27-YEAR-OLD man who turned to alcohol after being made redundant has admitted four offences following a bust-up with his partner.

Mateusz Doba pleaded guilty to two counts of threatening or abusive behaviour, obstructing police officers and breaching a court undertaking.

The offences happened at a house in Eildon Crescent, Melrose, on August 18/19.

Depute fiscal Joanna Waller told Selkirk Sheriff Court that Doba and his partner had moved from London to Scotland last year after arriving from Poland and had been together for three years.

She continued: "Around two weeks before the incident the accused was made redundant. The accused and his partner were in their address and he was consuming wine and whisky throughout the evening.

"There were complaints from neighbours because of an argument coming from the locus where they could hear a male and female shouting and screaming in what sounded like Polish.

"One witness phoned the police but when they arrived there was no trace of the accused.

"The partner was concerned about him and made repeated calls to him and after a search of the area he was traced.

"He was taken Borders General Hospital for assessment."

The next day police officers returned to Doba's home and the partner said he was not there but he was found hiding when officers searched the property.

He resisted arrest and struggled with two police officers.

Defence lawyer Liam Alexander said Doba had been living in Kelso since the incident due to bail conditions but the couple planned to resume their relationship.

He added: "He had been drinking since being made redundant. He does accept his behaviour was out of order but felt the police were over-aggressive when they man-handled him and he retaliated when he shouldn't have."

Doba was ordered to carry out 90 hours unpaid work as part of a Community Pay Back Order.
