ONE of Scotland’s most popular bands of the seventies and eighties is coming to Galashiels for potentially the Borders’ biggest shows of the year.

Anarchy lives on as Richard Jobson's legendary Scottish band The Skids continue to wow the crowds.

And the Punk Icons who became a major influence on later bands like Green Day and Manic Street Preachers will be appearing at MacArts on Saturday 4 June.

Tickets for this full band electric show are now on sale and support for this show will be from Paper Rifles.

The Veteran punk rock outfit were formed in 1977 in Dunfermline by Jobson and Stuart Adamson.

After releasing an independent single, the band were played by John Peel, supported The Clash in concert and then were signed to Virgin Records in 1978. Their first singles were Sweet Surburbia, The Saints are Coming and Into the Valley – the latter reaching the UK Top Ten in early 1979.

Their biggest successes were the 1979 single "Into the Valley" which is still played at East End Park ahead of Dunfermline games, and the 1980 album The Absolute Game.

Their seminal debut album Scared to Dance came out in 1979 and was followed by two chart singles – Masquerade and Working for the Yankee Dollar. The band released two more albums The Absolute Game (1980) and Joy (1981) before splitting.

Stuart went on to enjoy huge success with Big Country before his untimely death in 2001.

Previously The Skids briefly reformed to celebrate the band's 30th Anniversary, with concerts in their native Scotland at T in the Park and in their hometown of Dunfermline in 2007.

In 2017 the band embarked on a highly successful 40th Anniversary Tour covering the length and breadth of the UK and Ireland and an acclaimed appearance at Rebellion Festival in Blackpool.

A fifth studio Album “Burning Cities” was released in January 2018 followed by further tours the UK in 2018 and 2019 ending with a co-headline appearance at the Royal Albert Hall in June 2019. 2019 also brought us an acoustic album “Peaceful Times” which consisted of beautifully reworked acoustic versions of classic Skids songs.

The current group include Richard Jobson, William Simpson, Mike Baillie, Bruce Watson and Jamie Watson.
