The Met Office yellow weather warning for wind and snow, which is in place from 3am-6pm on Friday covers all but the extreme eastern coast of the Scottish Borders.

There remains uncertainty about what areas will see snow, however at low levels away from the coast there is the potential for around 5cm of snow which is forecast to start around 5am.

Accumulations over higher ground are expected to be significantly higher, possibly even up to 30cm.

Strong winds could also lead to blizzard conditions and drifting snow reducing visibility and making driving conditions difficult.

The Scottish Borders Council will provide updates through their free emergency messaging service SB Alert and encourage everyone to sign op via their website.

Police Scotland say that drivers should only travel if absolutely necessary.

If they need to travel they should allow extra time for their journey and drive to the road conditions.

They are also urging motorists to check the Met Office and Traffic Scotland websites and social media before setting out on their journey, particularly in those areas most affected by the predicted adverse weather.
