HOUSE prices in the Scottish Borders increased by 11.9% last year latest figures from the UK House Price Index show.

The average house price in December 2021 in the region was £192,494. (Scottish average £180,485)

Over the last year, the average sale price of property in the Scottish Borders rose by £20,000 – putting the area 17th among Scotland’s 32 local authorities with price data for annual growth.

Owners of detached houses saw the biggest improvement in property prices in the Scottish Borders increased to £331,929 on average. Over the last year, prices rose by 14.5%.

Semi-detached houses increased by 13% to £198,941 on average.

Terraced houses were up 12% to £163,649 on average.

Flats were up 8.8% to £105,236 on average.

First-time buyers in the region spent an average of £150,000 on their property – £15,000 more than a year ago, and £34,000 more than in December 2016.

By comparison, former owner-occupiers paid £227,000 on average in December.

The most expensive properties in Scotland were in Edinburgh – £312,000 on average
