THIS week will be cold, wet and windy in the Scottish Borders with a chance of snow on the hills.

But the good news is that today’s weather will not be as bad as originally anticipated.

On Friday the Met Office issued a yellow warning for wind which was due from 12pm Sunday 20 February to 12pm Monday 21 February.

This was due to cover the majority of the Scottish Borders but it will now affect mainly the south west of the country.

Having said that the air pressure has dropped 12.2mb over 24 hours, this usually signifies strong winds and/or heavy rain within the next 12-36 hours.

The day starts rather cloudy with bright spells and blustery showers, although longer spells of rain are expected through parts of the region this morning.

After a mild start you will soon feeling chilly in the fresh to strong westerly winds with coastal gales later. The maximum temperature today is 9 °C.

Tonight there will be showers or longer outbreaks of rain, these wintry at first with snow on the hills.

There will be drier and clearer spells by dawn with a minimum temperature 2 °C.

Tomorrow will be mainly dry and bright with some sunny spells, although the odd shower possible in the morning. Chilly northwest winds, will ease during the day. The maximum temperature will be 8 °C.

Heavy rain will clear to showers on Tuesday, with the showers mainly in the west of the region.

It will be windy with rain pushing east on Wednesday and cold and windy on Thursday with frequent wintry showers.
