STEALING two vacuum cleaners from a Borders store resulted in a 27-year-old woman being ordered to carry out 60 hours of unpaid work at Selkirk Sheriff Court.

Margaret Stokes pleaded guilty to stealing the items valued at £278 from Galashiels' Tesco on August 12, 2020.

The court heard there was full recovery of the stolen goods.

Stokes, who lives in a caravan in Selkirk, attempted to walk out the store with the vacuum cleaners which had no security tags on them but was spotted by staff.

The security tags were found on the store shelf.

She was asked for a receipt but could not produce one.

Not guilty pleas to two assault charges and also behaving in a threatening or abusive manner were accepted by the Crown.
