THE renowned Fijian sevens team, Lomaiviti, will play at this year’s Melrose Sevens on Saturday.

A number of the team members who’re based in southern England will make the journey north of the border in honour of legendary Fijian Sevens player Waisale Serevi who is being inducted into the Sevens Hall of Fame this year.

Autiko Domonakibau, CEO of Lomaiviti Sevens, said: “We are looking forward to showcase our Fijian raw talents at your event. This is a great honour for our people”.

Legendary Sevens player Waisale Serevi commented: “It will be a great honour to see my fellow countrymen show Fijian rugby at Melrose which is the home of rugby sevens. Sevens is the national sport of Fiji and I am sure Lomaiviti will show the Fijian passion for the game in April”.

Melrose Sevens Tournament Director, Phil Morris, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that Lomaiviti have accepted our invitation to play at this year’s Melrose Sevens. The team reached out having seen that their countryman Waisale Serevi was being inducted into the Melrose Sevens Hall of Fame and they have now agreed to bring a talented side to the Greenyards. We can certainly be guaranteed an exciting brand of rugby which will entertain the crowds this April!”

Also taking part is the Belgian National Rugby 7’s team.

Team Manager Youssef Driss commented: “The Melrose Seven tournament is very special to us, on the one hand because of its more than a century-old history and on the other hand because it is one of the benchmarks on the European scene. The interest for the Belgium Team Seven is to have the opportunity to participate and compete at a very high level and to launch our European season in the Championship next June.

We are all here genuinely excited to play at this prestigious event.”
