A DOG died after a car ploughed into a stationary vehicle at traffic lights on the A68 at Soutra.
Thirty-one-year-old Daniel Merriman of Solihull, near Birmingham, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless driving on September 27.
Selkirk Sheriff Court was told he failed to observe a stationary vehicle in front of him and collided into the rear which shunted it in to a vehicle in front of it.
The driver of the first vehicle struck was injured with a fractured rib and broken ribs and one of her dogs died.

Merriman, who works part time delivering cars, told the court it was a "momentary lapse of concentration".
He was described as having no previous convictions with a clean licence.
Sheriff Peter Paterson said the incident had "unfortunate consequences" .
He put six points on Merriman's licence and fined him £300 with £100 compensation to the injured woman and a £20 Victim Surcharge.
