A POPULAR Peebles shop has been named as Scotland’s best fishmonger.

Brooke Dougal opened her store, which is part of Eyemouth's Ross Dougal Fish Merchants, in the town's High Street when she was just 18 years old.

And since then it has gone from strength to strength, winning the top accolade at the prestigious Scottish Business Awards last month.

Brooke told the Peeblesshire News: “I’m really excited, I didn’t expect to win the award, but I’m delighted that we did.

“I’ve no idea who nominated us, but I suspect that it was a customer from the Peebles area.

"Whoever it was I’d like to thank them and everyone who voted for our business.

"At the end of the day all we do is aim to please our customers and keep them supplied with the best of fish.

“And I couldn’t ask for better staff to run our business. What a team we have, the factory boys, my brother Robbie, Jamie Butler and Davie Mark and ‘Bones’ from the office as well as my Auntie Amy (Simms) who helps in the shop.

“We opened in 2014 and since then we have enjoyed a lot of local support and the shop is always very busy.

“After we were nominated, we were visited by secret shoppers and managed to win the regional prize which took us through to the next stage which was the grand final in Glasgow.

"I was so chuffed when we won the best fishmonger in Scotland award, and I think it’s a good thing for the town as well.”
