A SECTION of a major Borders road will close at the start of May for resurfacing works, according to officials.

The A68 will be shut from north of the River Tweed to Drygrange between 7.30pm and 6am from Monday, May 2 to Friday, May 6.

A signed diversion route will be in place between Earlston and St Boswells via the A6105, A6089 and A699, according to a BEAR Scotland spokesperson.

The spokesperson for Transport Scotland’s operating company added that 0.8km of carriageway will be resurfaced to create “smoother and safer journeys for motorists”.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s south east network manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the A68 and will greatly improve the experience for motorists.

“It is essential for safety that we close the road during the works, however we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight to minimise the impact.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding.”
