GALASHIELS town centre has a new chip shop.

Tony’s Fish and Chicken Bar opened its door on Thursday April 14 2022 and enjoyed a very busy Easter Weekend with customers queueing out the door.

Many then took to social media to praise the quality of food and the service.

The shop, which is situated in Douglas Bridge, opposite Argos, is owned by Tony Mihai.

Tony learned the trade in Clackmannanshire before becoming head fryer at the popular Alfonso’s in Earlston.

The shop currently opened from 4pm to 10pm weekdays and 4pm – 11pm on weekends.

It will also be opening at lunchtime from noon – 2pm from next week. At present the shop does not deliver but they hope to start a delivery service in the coming weeks.

Tony said: “It’s been even busier than I expected, and the feedback has been good. I have lived in Gala for seven years and am delighted to open the shop after working at Alfonso’s.

“We also sell kebabs and pizzas and I believe that our chef, Salvatore, is the only Neapolitan pizza chef in Gala.

“I know the quality of food is very good and all I ask is for people to give us a try. If it’s better than the competition, they will come back.”

To celebrate the opening, three lucky customers won £30 to spend in the shop.
