GALA Fairydean Rovers exited the newly named FC United To Prevent Suicide Lowland League Cup with a 3-0 home defeat to Broomhill on Saturday.

Manager Martin Scott made three changes to the starting XI that were unfortunate to lose to Rangers last week.

Sean Docherty Gareth Rodgers and Scott Cusick replaced Callum Hall, Lewis Grant and Ciaren Chalmers.

Gala should have had an early penalty after Aaron Darge was clearly kicked by a Broomhill defender after nicking the ball off his toe when he was attempting to clear but despite the appeals the referee waved play on.

The visitors took the lead in the 13th minute after the Gala defence failed to deal with a long throw from the right wing. The ball was flicked on into the path of Josh Cooper who fired the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the net.

Gala fought back though and were looking the more likely to score before Ryan Schiavone was shown a controversial straight red card for an off the ball incident in the 20th minute, leaving his team mates with an uphill struggle.

Despite being down to 10-men, Gala dominated the early period of the second-half and were unfortunate not to score during that spell.

Zander Murray fired a low diagonal strike inches wide of the post as the hosts pressed for an equaliser.

Marc Berry went close before he was replaced by Daryl Healy and the change almost paid immediate dividends.

Healy flicked along ball into the path of Murray and his pass found Lewis Hall but his effort was somehow cleared off the line by Regan O’Sullivan.

Murray went close before teaming up with Healy once again and his cross found Cusick whose effort struck the post.

Then with 15-minutes remaining against the run of play Broomhill’s Tony Couts was upended in the box and Ryan Sinnamon fired the resultant penalty straight down the middle.

The visitors added a third after taking advantage of the extra man when Cooper found himself unmarked inside the area and his powerful low cross deflected off a Gala defender into the net.
