A PERFORMANCE group in Peebles is inviting people to have their say on the monarchy as part of a performing arts project.

The Regina Monologues, created by Acting Up, is open to over 50s who want to celebrate the Queen's platinum jubilee in a different way.

The monologues invite participants to have candid conversations about the monarchy of the past, present and future through acting, songwriting, poetry, or theatre writing.

Director Clare Prenton said: "We are open to all views and want the project to represent staunch republican and pro-Royal views, the ambivalent and the and all things in between – from those who want to be part of the cultural conversation!

"What does it mean to be a ‘subject’ in modern Scotland today?"

The course is open to anyone aged 50 or over and performance experience isn't necessary.

The Regina Monologues is a five-week project which starts on April 30 and will end with a free performance of some of the group's creations at the Eastgate Theatre for jubilee weekend.

Clare added: "It’s a cultural ‘snap shot’ of what local people think and feel."

The Regina Monologues course costs £40 for five weeks. Bookings via Eastgate Theatre 01721 725 777, online or in person.
