BORDERERS can have their say on taxi fares in the region through a new council consultation.
Scottish Borders Council (SBC) is inviting the general public and taxi operators to give feedback on fares.
As the licensing authority in the Borders, SBC is required to set scales for fares and charges and to conduct reviews of them regularly.
There is a proposed taxi rate increase of 4.6 per cent, which is designed to reflect the rising costs for operators.
Tariff changes are based on a formula which tracks motoring cost indicators such as vehical costs and local wage rates agreed by trade, the traffic commissioner and the council in 2009.
The last taxi fare review was in 2019, with further reviews postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Taxi Fare Review consultation is now open to feedback from the public and will close on Sunday, May 15.
