A BORDERS swimming pool is edging closer to reopening following its closure due to an “incident involving glass”.

Live Borders announced that the facility at Teviotdale Leisure Centre had shut with immediate effect last Friday (April 22).

It had initially been estimated that the pool would be shut for up to three weeks.

But in an update issued yesterday (April 28), a spokesperson said the trust is “confident” the pool will open ahead of schedule.

The spokesperson said: “The pool is now fully refilled, and we are working it up to usable temperature. It is a large body of water and has risen in temperature by one degree today, but as the pool reheats it does increase the speed it regains and holds temperature.

“It is too early to confirm which day we can reopen, but we will continue to keep you informed; we are confident it will reopen ahead of the initial schedule.

“Thanks again for your understanding and patience.”

All other facilities at the site including the gym, soft play, fitness classes and café are operating as normal.
