A POPULAR Borders café has opened under new ownership and a new name.

Eden Coffee House, formerly the Greenhouse Café in Melrose's Buccleuch Street officially opened its doors this week with its new owners, the Peters family.

The Peters family run Saltire Hospitality, an established event caterer which also runs the cafés at Rosslyn Chapel and the National Library of Scotland.

David Peters, owner of Eden Coffee House, said: "This is our very first café where we own the building that we operate from and we’re thrilled to be able to do that in Melrose which is a really special place for us as a family."

Eden Coffee House has a botanical theme and will be supplied with freshly baked bread and cakes by Saltire's sister company Saltire Patisserie in Loanhead. The Melrose café will also serve the company's renowned strawberry tarts.

David, who created Saltire Hospitality in 2000, is supported by his parents David (senior) and Moira Peters who play key roles in the business.

The family came together to celebrate the opening of Eden Coffee House by cutting a floral garland at the café's entrance which was created by Stems of Jedburgh.

David's parents have lived in Gattonside for more than 40 years.

"It’s such a lovely town and the building has great inside and outside space," said David. "We look forward to welcoming in the well-kent faces of the area as well as the many visitors to the town.

“We’re all about locally sourced produce and freshly baked goods and we hope that the people of Melrose will be thrilled by our newest venture and that we can do them proud.”

Eden Coffee House will initially be open Wednesday to Sunday from 9am-5pm, however, the café will soon be open seven days a week.

Dogs are also welcome in the front section of the coffee house.
