BORDERS rugby fans will spot few familiar faces in the 13-player squad for upcoming HSBC World Sevens Series legs in Toulouse and London.

Former Selkirk winger Lee Jones joins ex-Melrose man Ross McCann and former Southern Knight Freddie Owsley for the tournament which takes place in Toulouse May 20-22 and London May 28-29

The experienced Jones (33) who has taken part in 28 previous events returns to Ciaran Beattie’s group after missing recent events with a knee injury.

Owsley (25) is included for the first time whilst McCann (24) is a mainstay in the side and has played in 20-events. He was also part of Team GB at the Tokyo Olympics last year.

Head Coach Beattie said: “We are aiming to take the progress made in Vancouver and improve again against top-class opposition. We feel like we are getting better with each passing week and there is a real bond in this young squad.

“Being able to welcome back Robbie Fergusson, a talented player we know and who holds the respect of his peers, is another boost for the trips to France and then Twickenham.”
