A 49-YEAR-OLD woman involved in a bust-up with police has been ordered to pay £180 at Selkirk Sheriff Court.

Carol Cairns, of Leslie Place, Selkirk, pleaded guilty to charges of threatening or abusive conduct and police assault on February 16 at Galashiels Police Station.

Procurator fiscal Alasdair Fay explained the accused had an "episode" in Galashiels when the weather was bad with Storm Dudley.

He said that she became involved with members of the public who were concerned for her and she alleged that she had become homeless and had been robbed.

Mr Fay said that it was Cairns who actually called the police and officers soon established there had not been a robbery but she had lost her possessions and she was extremely intoxicated.

She then became unruly with police officers adopting an aggressive attitude before throwing a handbag and its contents which struck a female officer on the body.

Cairns told the court she was "distressed" at the time of the incident and apologised for her conduct.

Sheriff Peter Paterson imposed a fine of £100 for the police assault and £70 for behaving in a threatening or abusive manner as well as a £10 Victim Surcharge.
