POLICE have confirmed they are investigating reports three daredevils base jumped from a 262ft block of flats in the region.

Emergency services were called to Vale House in Jesmond - Newcastle’s second tallest building – at around 9.40pm on Monday, May 16.

It is understood stunned onlookers saw three people parachuting down from the roof of the 28-storey tower block.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At around 9.40pm on Monday, police received a report of a disturbance at Vale House on Lansdowne Gardens in Jesmond.

“It was reported that three unknown males parachuted off the roof of the building and landed in a nearby car park before leaving the area on foot.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish if any criminal offences have taken place.

“It is not believed that anyone was injured.”

Completed in 1968, Vale House was once the city’s tallest building, but it was overtaken by Hadrian’s Tower on Rutherford Street in the city centre two years ago.
