POOR lighting on a Borders street has nearly caused two accidents after people missed the edge of the pavement.
A meeting of Innerleithen Community Council this month heard how the new downward pointing, light emitting diode (LED) lamps on St Ronan’s Terrace restrict the view of the ground compared to the old orange street lights.
Member George Brown said: “The distance between the poles is too far and there is about 30 to 40 metres totally dark.

“I know two people who have missed the edge of the pavement just because it is so badly lit.”
Minutes secretary Jackie Couchman said: “I have raised it before because similarly on Leithen Road there are some dark patches.”
Ms Couchman added that she’d been told it was all very carefully calculated when the new lights were erected but there are still dark areas.
Tweeddale East councillor Robin Tatler suggested that he could ask a Scottish Borders Council officer to attend a community council meeting to talk about street lighting.
