COMMUNITIES around the Borders are preparing to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee next month after receiving grants from Scottish Borders Council (SBC).

The local authority opened the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Fund to allow community groups and projects to apply fir grants to put on a range of events.

According to data from SBC, the highest grant approved for the fund was £2,500, and the lowest was £43.74.

Forty-four groups or projects successfully applied for grants.

In total, £72,372 has been issued to applicants.

The groups which received the highest grants include:

  • Berwickshire Association for Voluntary Service (BAVS) - £2,500
  • Bird Gardens Scotland - £2,500
  • Channelkirk Primary School Parent Council - £2,500
  • Denholm and District Community Council - £2,500
  • Earlston Paths Group - £2,500
  • Galashiels Men's Shed - £2,500
  • Hawick Ex-Service Association - £2,500
  • Kelso Community Council - £2,500
  • St. Boswells Village Hall - £2,500
  • St. Ronan's Silver Band - £2,500
  • Visit Kelso - £2,500
  • Ancrum Village Hall - £2,430
  • Selkirk Cricket Club - £2,377.07
  • Tweeddale Youth Action - £2,366
  • Coldingham Society - £2,357.58
  • Currie Memorial Hall - £2,196
  • Sprouston Community Council - £2,170

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Fund will support garden parties, community gardens, commeomorative benches, and commemorative badges.
