GALA Fairydean Rovers players have a chance to make history today when they face Linlithgow Rose in the final of the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup.

The game will take place at Penicuik Park in Penicuik with a 2pm kick-off time.

Avid fan and new Scottish Borders Council leader Euan Jardine said: “My sporting highlight of the year was when Gala Fairydean Rovers beat Bonnyrigg Rose 5-1 in the EOS cup a couple of months ago. It was a magical night which felt like a dream.

“Their performances in the cup have brought a lot of pride to the town, and the final will be a special occasion for the club's loyal supporters. Volunteers run the club, and for them, this is a reward for their hard work. I am 100% behind the club's quest to lift the EOS Qualifying Cup.”

Gala manager Martin Scott: “We are looking to do the town of Galashiels proud and I hope we take a big crowd to the game. It’s at Penicuik which is the midpoint for both sets of fans.

“I’ve never played or managed there but I have been to games and it’s a tight ground and there is sure to be a good atmosphere.

“I’m really looking forward to it as this will be my first managerial final and I’ve told the players that they owe it to themselves to showcase their talent on the biggest stage at this level.

“Linlithgow play in the same league as Penicuik so it will be more familiar to their players but if we play as I know we can then I am confident we can bring the trophy back to the Borders.

“But win, lose or draw, regardless of the result, I am proud of the players.”

Rovers are running a free supporters’ bus to the game and are keen to take a large travelling support to the match.

The bus will depart the club rooms at 11.30am but fans have to book in advance.
