Gala players celebrate
Gala responded immediately however and top scorer Zander Murray equalised on the stroke of half-time with a well taken strike from the edge of the area.
The second-half belonged to the Borderers who created chance after chance and were denied a stonewall penalty when Ryan Schivove was brought down inside the box.
But with six-minutes remaining, Docherty scored his second goal of the day against the run of play and with gala chasing an equaliser Sean Heaver wrapped things up for Rose in the dying minutes.
Despite finishing as runners up, the performance provides optimism for next season.
