BORDERS Buses will run a full service today Thursday June 9 2022 after drivers gave up rest days, swapped shifts and agreed to work extra hours.

Yesterday a number of services were cut due to driver sickness and shortages and the company tweeted that they were anticipating more cancellations today.

But instead they announced this morning that all buses will run as normal, due to the ‘commitment and dedication’ of their team.

They accept however that the next three weeks could be challenging.

Borders Buses issued the following statement: “Like many industries we have been struggling with staff shortages, the past few weeks being particularly challenging.

“We were reluctantly expecting to be updating customers of more cancellations tonight for tomorrow and feeling helpless of the impact this would have on our customers.

“We are pleased to say our Borders Buses team have been working all day to deliver a full service with a reduced number of staff and have succeeded.

“Our drivers have given up rest days, swapped shifts and are working extra hours to get you to school, work, appointments and anywhere else you need to go!

“The commitment and dedication of our Borders Buses team in keeping our customers moving has been unbelievable!

“To be honest, the next three weeks will be operationally challenging. Once the schools stop for the summer it should give us extra resource to meet our service commitments but until then it’s going to be a challenge.

“We will keep our customers updated daily. However we are keen to stress our aim is to keep our network connected and not cut services, frequency (journeys) may be reduced across all services.”
