BORDERS hockey star Sarah Robertson has joined six-time Olympic gold medal-winning cyclist Sir Chris Hoy, Olympic gold medallist rower Dame Katherine Grainger, and Olympic 400 metre running champion Eric Liddell in the University of Edinburgh Sports Hall of Fame.

Robertson who hails from Selkirk has achieved serial success at club and international level, including medal glory at the Olympics.

She was a pivotal member of Edinburgh University Women’s Hockey Club and was the key reason behind the club’s rise and domination of Scottish Hockey, securing National League and Scottish Cup successes and wins at European Cup competitions.

She was awarded the Captain ST Garner Prize for best athletic performance by a first-year student in 2011/12 and received her University Blue in 2013/14 as well as finding success off the pitch, graduating with a First Class Law LLB Degree in 2017.

In addition, Robertson has gained over 100 international caps for Scotland and more than 60 for Team GB and was a central figure in enabling GB women to claim Olympic bronze by scoring in the 4-3 medal winning match against India last year.

And she continues to be an inspirational figure having been selected as captain for the Scottish Women’s Hockey Team at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

The 28-year-old picked up the award at the University’s annual celebration of sporting excellence, the Blues and Colours Awards Dinner on Thursday June 2 2022.

She was joined in the Hall of Fame by Scottish, British and World Champion in hill and trail running Angela Mudge and pioneering and inspirational role model Hollie Davidson, a who became Scottish Rugby’s first full-time female professional referee in 2017.

Director of Sport at the University of Edinburgh Jim Aitken MBE said: “It’s an honour to welcome these three inspiring women into our Sports Hall of Fame.

“Each have contributed immeasurably in their chosen sport and demonstrate the University’s place as a leading destination for gifted students wanting to pursue their academic and sporting ambitions.”

Edinburgh’s Hall of Fame now boasts 44 world class athletes across 20 sports.
