A JOINER who admitted a drug driving offence has been banned from the road for 12 months.
Twenty-two-year-old Brooke Riddell from Melrose, pleaded guilty to the offence which happened on October 23, 2020.
Selkirk Sheriff Court heard that he lost control of his vehicle on the A6091 Melrose by-pass at around 25 to one in the morning and police officers found the car partially blocking the road.
They could detect a smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle and saliva tests were carried out.
Riddell's lawyer described his client as an otherwise responsible and hard working young man who had under-estimated how long it took for the substance to pass through his system.
Sheriff Peter Paterson said he may have under-estimated how long it took but reminded him that consuming the drug was still illegal.
In addition to the driving ban, Riddell was fined £350 with a £20 Victim Surcharge.
