PUPILS at Jedburgh Grammar Campus have received a grant of £1398 from the Asda Foundation to purchase much needed kit and equipment for the school’s rugby and hockey teams.

The application came from the school’s parent council and Asda’s Community Champion Nola Milne says that more money is available to other groups in the Scottish Borders.

Nola, who is based in the Galashiels store is keen to get the word out about the types of help available to the community.

She said: “There are currently four grants available from Asda Foundation.

"The Green Token Giving" is a quarterly grant worth £500, £400 or £300.

“The Under 18s Better Starts" Grant is focused on benefitting under 18 year old's and is worth between £500 and £1500 and is available three times throughout the year.

“The Empowering Local Communities Grant is focused on benefitting communities and is worth between £500 and £1500 and is available three times throughout the year.

“The Investing in Spaces and Places Grant is a new grant from Asda Foundation for larger projects and is worth up to £25,000 per Asda Region and is available once a year.

“These grants are available for Borders groups, but I am finding that when I'm discussing options with local groups, they are unaware that Asda can supply these grants and there are funds there to be used, I just need to get the word out there.

“I'm absolutely delighted we were able to secure this grant for Jedburgh Grammer Campus and it all came from a simple enquiry from one family member to another about what options were available from Asda!

“Part of the ethos of that grant was to promote the benefits of being active and a sense of inclusivity in a team and the items they intend to buy will certainly do that.

"Initial enquiries can be emailed to me on community_galashiels@asda.co.uk."

A spokesperson for Jedburgh School said: “Huge thanks to Asda Galashiels and the Asda Foundation for granting our JGC Parent Council bid to fund resources for extra-curricular sport.

“Thanks also to the Heard family for making this link with the Parent Council. It will make such a difference to our young people.”
