ON Thursday July 7 2022 members of the Borders Search and Rescue Team gathered in Kelso to receive their Platinum Jubilee Medals.

The medals are awarded to those who provide a frontline service in the Armed Forces and Emergency Services (retained or voluntary,) with more than five years of service in celebration of Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

The Unit cover the south east of Scotland including the Lammermuir and Cheviot hill ranges.

Members of the team are volunteers who are on call 24/7 365 to provide an essential emergency service, not just to hillwalkers but to the whole community through a wide range of incidents they attend.

Scottish Borders Area Commander, Chief Inspector Vincent Fisher made the presentations and thanked all the volunteers for their efforts.

He said: "I was delighted to present the Borders Search and Rescue Unit with their Queen's Jubilee medals tonight. It was an honour to congratulate them and to also take the opportunity to thank them, on behalf of Police Scotland, for the work they do.

"Volunteering is a full-time commitment and I would like to personally thank all the volunteers for the sacrifices they and their families make when they are called upon for assistance during search and rescue operations.

“They are a valued group of people who risk their own lives and welfare to help keep people in the Borders safe."
