IT could be a fair cop if a former Borders police station and current five-bedroom guest house is converted into a family home.

An application has been submitted to Scottish Borders Council for the change of use of The Priory View guest house in Eyemouth Road, Coldingham, into a dwelling house.

The application comes from Glasgow-based Kirstie Sinclair Swain and Hamurabi Salifu, who are in the process of purchasing the property.

A submission with the application says the building has been occupied since it was built in 1963.

The applicants say it would not require any works and they plan to “move into it immediately and live in it as a family home and not do anything with it.”

The applicants add: “Its original use was as a police station and police house, so therefore had a self-contained residential unit within the property.

“The current owners, who bought the property in 2004, have operated a five-bedroom guest house from the property since 2006, and have lived in it for the duration, occupying the self-contained owner’s quarters.

“Although we would like to do some works in the future, with appropriate permissions, we do not require them at this stage.”
