BACKGROUND reports have been ordered into a man who admitted causing a disturbance at Borders General Hospital.

Forty-nine-year-old Colin McLean, of Kelso's Roxburgh Street, pleaded guilty to obstructing a charge nurse by shouting and swearing, throwing items around, refusing to leave and demanding medication on August 10 last year.

He also admitted assaulting a female police officer by seizing her by the body and attempting to grab her by the throat.

Sheriff Peter Paterson said: "These are serious matters and I will call for reports to see if there is any alternative to a custodial sentence."

Sentence was deferred until August 8 at Selkirk Sheriff Court.
