FLOORS Castle in Kelso recorded a record breaking high of 35.1 degrees Celsius on Tuesday afternoon.

The figure was recorded between 2.12pm and 2.24pm and it topped the 34.8 degrees Celsius measured at nearby Charterhall on the same day.

The previous Scottish record high of 32.9 degrees Celsius recorded at Greycrook, near St Boswells, 19 years ago.

The figure will be quality controlled by the Met Office to ensure its accuracy.

If confirmed, the Roxburghe estate will hold the record as the hottest place in Scotland since records began.

UPDATE:

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "All potential new records will undergo quality control checks over the coming days.

"We also will be receiving data from our volunteer climate sites; all records are provisional at this stage and official records will be announced in due course."
