A 26-YEAR-OLD man has admitted being the owner of two "Eastern European rescue dogs" involved in a sheep-worrying incident in the Borders.

A number of animals were killed or injured in the attack at Posso Farm in the Manor Valley on March 10.

Selkirk Sheriff Court heard Dale Scott - who gave an address at Abbotsford Road in Galashiels - was responsible for the Carpathian Shepherd mix dog, and another Tornjack mix which chased and attacked them.

Lawyer Ed Hulme told the court his client - who runs a forestry company - had been working nearby and took his eye off the dogs and lost them for a significant period.

He saw blood on the mouth of one of the dogs and he had contacted local farmers to ask if any livestock had been hurt.

It emerged the next again day 11 pregnant sheep had been killed.

Mr Hulme said Scott had tried to speak to the farmer about compensation but the conversation became "heated".

Sheriff Kenneth Maciver deferred sentence until August 28 to allow the Crown to establish the value of the animals killed or injured.

He also said the issue on whether Scott would be disqualified from owning dogs would be decided on then.
