The A7 is set to benefit from an improved road surface, with 11 nights of resurfacing works scheduled between 8-13 August and 15-19 August 2022.

The works will see Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland resurface over 1.2km of carriageway, creating smoother and safer journeys for motorists.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and the public during these works, the A7 will be closed in both directions for 11 nights from 8-13 August, and then from the 15-19 August between 19:30 and 06:00 each night.

To minimise disruption, weekend working has been reduced and will only take place on Saturday 13 August.

A signed diversion will be in place between Hawick and Canonbie via the A6088, B6357 and B7201. This diversion will add approximately 7.7 miles and 20 minutes to affected journeys.

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times and local access for residents within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.

Emergency services and other relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will result in smoother and safer journeys for motorists using this stretch of the A7.

“While a carriageway closure is essential for safety, we’ve scheduled the works overnight in order to minimise disruption to journeys. We thank motorists in advance for their patience.”
