GALA Fairydean Rovers are back in action tonight Tuesday August 2 when they face Edinburgh University at Peffermill in the capital.
Gala's excellent start to their Lowland League campaign continued with a well-deserved away win against Cowdenbeath at Central Park on Saturday.
Manager Martin Scott made one change to his starting XI from the team that beat Civil Service Strollers with Kelvin Daniel replacing Gareth Rodger.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 13th minute when striker Zander Murray won possession in midfield and drove into the penalty area before sliding a perfect pass to Allan Smith. He side footed the ball into the net from ten yards.
Ten minutes later the Blue Brazil equalised following a long punt from their keeper.
The pass caught out the Gala defenders and Ewan Thomson fired a superb half-volley into the roof of the net from an acute angle.
Murray then tried his luck from the edge of the box forcing the keeper to parry the ball into the path of Kyle Wilkie, but the midfielder’s effort was cleared off the line.
With 10 minutes remaining, Gregor Jordan scored the winner with a powerful header from Danny Galbraith’s corner sparking celebrations from the away dugout.
After the final whistle Gala’s assistant manager Steve Craig said: “If someone had said to us before the game that we would come here and win 2-1 in a manner that we did, but it’s all about results but at the same time we want to play.
“But we are thoroughly pleased. We gave the boys a wee talking to at half time and reminded them of what kind of standard that myself and the gaffer are trying to strive to here.
“And to be fair to a man they held up their hands and they gave us everything.
“We started really well but as soon as we scored the goal we tend to loose a bit of impetus.
“It’s all a learning curve for us. The pitch and the conditions didn’t really suit the way we want to play but we had to adapt.
“It’s been tough. We’ve had a really good pre-season on the training field although the results in the games didn’t reflect that.
“At the end of last season we sat down and knew exactly what was required. Jimmy (Martin Scott) has done wonders and we have recruited really well.
“The boys that were here last year have been helped by the new boys. We’ve got experience in right areas.
“It’s only the third game this season an there is a long way to go but so far, seven (points) from nine and it should have been nine from nine but we can’t be too disheartened.
“I’m loving it. The thing about Gala is that it’s very infectious. I invite my dad down to every game and we just love their ethos. They demand that we play football.”
