GALA Fairydean Rovers sit proudly on top of the Lowland League this morning after a 3-2 victory over Edinburgh University at Peffermill in Edinburgh last night.

Martin Scott's men travelled to the capital in confident mood after a 2-1 away victory over Cowdenbeath at Central Park on Saturday.

And it was Gala that took the lead in the 26th minute with a goal from summer signing Allan Smith, his second in two games.

But the students responded within two minutes with a goal from David Maskrey.

Then just before the break Gala were awarded a penalty and striker Zander Murray made no mistake from 12-yards to give his side a 2-1 half time lead.

Edinburgh University were awarded a penalty of their own on the hour mark and Maskrey stepped up to score his second of the night.

However five minutes later Gregor Jordan emulated Smith by scoring his second goal in two games.

Gala held on to secure the three points that ensured top spot in the league, at least for 24-hours.

Rovers have 10-points from four games but Bo'ness United who have nine from three games face the University of Stirling who have seven points from three games.
