TWEEDVALE Walking Football Club are hosting an over 60s tournament at Victoria Park, Innerleithen on Sunday August 21 with teams from throughout the country taking part.

The event kicks off at 1pm and the club are hoping that people interested in taking up the sport come along and see for themselves.

In Pool A, Tweedvale Reds will be joined by Gala Fairydean Rovers, Forth Valley and Falkirk.

Pool B includes Tweedvale Yellows, Tranent, Carrick and Giffnock Auld Yins.

Winners of Pool A will face the runners up from Pool B and the winners of Pool B will take on the runners up from Pool A in the semi-finals.

Tweedvale walking footballer Bobby Craigie said: “As well as a competitive event, it is hoped that it will give some older people in area a chance to see if it would be suitable for them.

“Walking Football is a great way of keeping fit, and is open to all players even if they don’t want to play competitively.

“Basically it’s for men over 50 and women over 40, however people with recovering medical issues are also welcome if they would like get fit again.

“After the event we will hold a presentation in the Union Club where any interested parties can ask questions, plus a wee bit of socialising. Come along and watch, all are welcome.”
