TWEEDVALE Walking Football Club hosted their first tournament in Innerleithen at the weekend.

More than 70 players from eight teams participated in the over 60s event.

The tournament was played in round robin sections, before semi finals and final which saw Giffnock SC Auld Timers victorious defeating Forth Valley on penalties.

Tweedvale player Bobby Craigie, who is also the Walking Football Scotland representative, said: “A big thank you to all who took part and based on the success of the day, there is every chance that we will hold a similar event next year.

“Congratulations to winners Giffnock but also to Tweedvale for the success of their first event.

Giffnock’s Martin Jack said: “On behalf of Giffnock SC Auld Timers I would like to thank you and the team for organising a great day of Walking Football in a beautiful setting.

“We said so on arrival, so it’s not a compliment based on the eventual outcome for us.

“We Hope to come back again should you decide to run a similar festival next year.

“It was also good to play against teams we’re not familiar with playing against on a regular basis too.”
