INSPIRATIONAL duo Shona Ramsay from Jedburgh and Jan Shirley, from Oxnam will continue their fundraising activity on behalf of the Guide Dogs charity this week.

The pair’s annual walk will take place under the Edinburgh Kiltwalk umbrella and they have set themselves a target of £600.

Shona’s previous guide dog Oscar retired a couple of years ago although he did make very welcome guest appearances at the pair’s St Cuthbert's walk in 2021.

So this year, her new guide dog, Dougal will be accompanying her while Dougal’s best pal Rowlfie will also walk the route with Jan.

Jan said: “We have set ourselves a target of £600 which is quite a challenge in todays economic climate, and with just a week to go, we are almost at our halfway point, but not quite there yet!

“But every penny counts and its more than we had a week ago and more than Guide Dogs had a week ago, so we are very grateful to get this far.

“Spreading the word is really important and we really appreciate anything you can do.

“Guide Dogs is a charity close to our hearts as they have provided not just one, but two guide dogs for Shona over the years. Having a guide dog gives Shona her eyes and independence back, we are now giving something back to Guide Dogs.

“Each year we walk to raise funds for Guide Dogs. In 2019 we walked the Wee Wander with Oscar.

“ In 2020 there was no Kiltwalk, so was walked the Borders Abbey Way, again with Oscar, and in 2021 we walked St Cuthbert’s Way with Oscar making guest appearances along the way.

“This year, as Oscar has now retired, but still with Shona, we are walking the Big Stroll with her new guide dog, Dougal.

“Please do come along and say hello, we’d love to see you along the way.”

Shona added: “We intended to walk along the Tweed in October but have decided to do the Big Stroll because every penny we raise is topped up by 50% thanks to the fantastic generosity of Sir Tom Hunter and The Hunter Foundation.

“ Any donation you can spare will mean the world to us and Guide Dogs.”
