A NEW business is due to take over a former Melrose bakery next month.

Twelve Triangles, an Edinburgh-based bakery is set to take over the former home of The Bakehouse on Melrose's High Street in October – bringing its range of signature bakes to the Borders.

Owners Rachel Morgan and Emily Cuddeford have regularly delighted Borderers with their sourdough breads and pastries at the Faldonside Farmers Market, most recently at Harmony House Orchard in Melrose.

Twelve Triangles has seven branches in Edinburgh, and this will be its first shop outside the city.

Emily said: "It’s a real pleasure to open our first branch outside Edinburgh in Melrose."

Local businesses Purple Plum greengrocer and Martin Baird butchers will supply the bakery with produce to help make soups, sandwiches, toasties and other treats.

The bakery will also offer seating for around 10 people.

Emily added: "Since moving with my family to the Borders, I’ve been delighted with the reception to our breads and pastries at Faldonside Farmers Market, which has consistently sold out.

"It’s a real honour to open a shop in Melrose and join the thriving community of independent businesses already based there."

Products on offer at the bakery will include: sourdough bread, fougasse, ciabatta, focaccia, baguettes, and 100% rye bread.

In addition to classic pastries, Twelve Triangles also have twists on favourites like twice baked croque monsieurs, bramble and pistachio croissants and baklava buns.

Fresh juices and coffee by Edinburgh coffee company Fortitude will also be available to purchase.

The bakery also hopes to create new jobs in the local area.
