Firefighters are currently at the scene of a fire at Gala Water Retail Park.

Smoke was seen billowing from the rear of Boots.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Servive and Police Scotland have been approached for comment.

Update: A number of wooden pallets at the rear of the shops are on fire.

It is unclear at this stage whether the fire has spread to any buildings.

It is not known whether the fire was started deliberately.

UPDATE: The fire has been extinguished.

A number of general waste wheelie bins and several wooden pallets have been damaged.

These were situated in the delivery area at the rear of Pets and Home and New Look.

There are no reports of any injuries or apparent damage to any buildings.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.

A spokesperson from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that they had received a number of calls from the public regarding the fire.

One fire engine from Galashiels responded and were able to extinguish the fire. A number of wheelie bins and wooden pallets were damaged. There were no injuries.
