ON SATURDAY October 1 2022, six volunteers removed stockpiled rubbish from the left bank of the Gala Water at three locations: Ladhope Vale Car Park, Ladhope Bridge and Hunter Bridge.
The rubbish relocated for collection included: 0.8 metre diameter circular metal plate, car wheel, 12 m length of 2" rubber suction hose, cross-member of van chassis with bump-stops, lengths of cast iron drain pipes, and assorted metal rails, rods and pipes.
One of the volunteers, Elder Michael Walters from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Lucas, Texas, said: "It's a pleasure to serve here in the community alongside my brothers and sisters. Making this home for some, and home away from home for me, as beautiful as possible, for the Glory of God".
Gala Waterways Group are very grateful to our volunteers for their hard work, to businesses for allowing access across their land, and to SBC for uplifting the rubbish.
The groups next work party will be on Saturday 05 November. For more information contact 07763 850087 or galawaterways@gmail.com
