A 34-YEAR-OLD woman who bombarded her former partner with emails and text messages following the break-up of their 13-year relationship has been placed on supervision for 12 months at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.

Kerry Hogarth, from Kelso, pleaded guilty to a stalking charge in January this year. The court was told she sent hundreds of messages which were regarded as a nuisance but there were also occasions when she was shouting and swearing at the man.

The man went to her home to ask her to stop the messages but she subjected him to around 50 minutes of shouting and swearing which was recorded on his phone.

Defence lawyer Ed Hulme said his client had been hoping for a reconciliation following the break down of the relationship at the end of 2021 and the commission of the offence in January.

He added: “She found out her former partner was seeing a new person. She comes across as a person who allowed her emotions to get the better of her. Her messages crossed the line but she was not intending to cause fear and alarm. She has no intention of speaking to her former partner again.”

Sheriff Kenneth McIver imposed a Community Pay Back Order with 12 months of supervision as well as a Non-Harassment Order forbidding contact with the former partner except by electronic means for child care purposes.
