A GALASHIELS hub will offer help to people struggling to cope this winter amid the cost-of-living crisis.

‘Warm and Welcome’ sessions will take place at the Focus Centre each Monday and Tuesday from October 24.

Judith Cleghorn, chairwoman of Galashiels Community Council, told a meeting last week that the number of food parcels issued by the town’s food bank had “increased significantly”.

She said that various organisations would work collaboratively at the Focus Centre sessions – which will be on from 10am-3pm – to offer people advice and support.

Food and warm drinks would also be available at the “regular get-togethers”, Ms Cleghorn added.

“We are opening up for two mornings a week,” said Ms Cleghorn.

“It’s really good for the Focus Centre to be able to do this.

“We’re not charging anyone to do this so we will be doing some fundraising.”

Ms Cleghorn described the plans as “the very least we can do” to help.
