A BORDERS man is leading Scotland at this year's World Mixed Curling Championship in Aberdeen.

The championships are underway in Aberdeen, after kicking off on October 15 and will run until October 22.

Team Scotland will be headed by skip Cameron Bryce, of Kelso, with Falkirk's Lisa Davie taking on the role of vice-skip.

Cameron, who is 27-years-old, has previously competed at the tournament in 2015 and 2016 where the team secured bronze.

In 2017 he also won the Scottish junior title and skipped Scotland at the world junior championships.

Following Scotland's first match, Cameron said: "We started well in practice, towards the middle part of our first game we struggled with the ice a little bit and it took some time to get used to it.

"We got a good result in the end, Hungary are probably one of the stronger teams in our group, so it was good to get a win early doors – it’s always good to start with a win!

"We’ve all played in this rink before and when there’s six sheets on, it’s so loud, so communication is key for making shots.

"We need to zone in a bit as well; there’s a bit of freshness because we only had one training session together before we came up here.

"The more we play, the better we’re going to get."

Team Scotland will be one of 36 teams competing at this year's championship.

A spokesperson from Scottish Curling added: "We are hoping that these home world championships will inspire many to have a go at curling themselves – and it couldn’t be easier to do so!

"We encourage people to visit www.trycurling.com to find their nearest ice rink and information on the sessions they offer."
