A FISH factory worker was more than three times the legal alcohol limit when involved in a road accident, Jedburgh Sheriff Court has been told.
Vasile Ciaciru, 33, pleaded guilty to driving with a breath/alcohol count of 78 microgrammes – the legal limit being 22 – in Albert Road, Eyemouth, during the early hours of September 25.
He also admitted failing to stop after his vehicle had been involved in an accident.
Fiona Hamilton, prosecuting, said witnesses were woken at 4.30am by a noise and saw that Ciaciru’s vehicle had had crashed into a neighbour’s vehicle.
The vehicle then drove off.

The neighbour was alerted and the police contacted and Ciaciru was found in a nearby car park. A bottle of rum was found in the car’s footwell.
When charged by the police he said: “I will lose my job.”
His lawyer told the court that Ciaciru was unaware that it was a bottle of rum and thought it was mineral water.
He said he had been drinking before getting into the car.
Ciaciru was fined £200 for drinking and driving and £150 for failing to stop. He was also disqualified from driving for 12 months.
