POLICE in the Scottish Borders are reminding the public that darker nights mean its easier for thieves to target their property.

It now gets dark before many people get home from work leaving potential housebreakers an oportunity to select houses in darkness where there is unlikely to be anyone in.

Officers have issued advice to help keep people’s home safe after the clocks went back on Sunday morning.

Keep windows & doors locked - always remove the key from the lock where there is glazing nearby.

Secure sheds & garages with good quality locks.

Check any outside security lighting is working.
