AN ON-CALL fire crew has rescued an occupant from a kitchen blaze in a Borders town.

The incident happened at around 9pm last night (November 8) in Duns, according to an update from the community fire station.

The crew tackled the fire using breathing apparatus, a thermal image camera and a hose reel jet.

A spokesperson for the station said: “Duns community fire station’s on-call crew were mobilised to a kitchen alight at 9.16pm last night in Duns.

“Upon arrival they were required to effect a rescue of an occupant, and tackled a fire within the kitchen area using breathing apparatus, thermal image camera and a hose reel jet.

“The occupant was taken into the care of Scottish Ambulance Service.

“A small amount of cutting away was required to ensure no fire had spread elsewhere.”
