PEEBLES Skate Park group this week celebrated the breaking of ground on the new £150k facility in the town.

The outdoor space will give a much needed boost to the young, and young at heart, in the town.

Chair of Peebles Skate Park Group Phil Gates said: "After 10 years of work we are delighted to see work finally starting on the park, weather permitting we are hopeful that it will be open for everyone to enjoy early in the new year.

"Ten years ago when we started this project we thought that it wouldn't take this long, but we are really pleased that we have finally got there.

“We thank everyone who has been involved in this project including the steering group, councillors old and new and the council officials who have worked with us to make our dream become a reality."

Former councillor Shona Haslam said: "One of the reasons I became a councillor back in 2017 was to see this project get off the ground so I am delighted that work has finally started."
