A LEGAL secretary who caused a disturbance in a Borders hotel and assaulted a staff member has been ordered to pay a total of £420 at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.

Thirty-nine-year-old Deborah Waddle, of Wallsend near Newcastle, had been staying with her partner at the Ednam House Hotel, Kelso, on October 30.

But she became abusive to her partner, assaulted a female staff member by striking her on the chest and then causing damage in a police car by kicking the rear door.

Defence lawyer Liam Alexander said his client had consumed far too much alcohol and was embarrassed at making her first appearance in court.

Sheriff Peter Paterson told her: "I sincerely hope that you have learned your lesson on the dangers of drinking too much alcohol."

He imposed fines totalling £250 and ordered Waddle to pay £150 compensation to the staff member she assaulted.

A £20 Victim Surcharge was added.
