A BORDERS business and community space has shut its doors with immediate effect.

Geek Retreat on Channel Street in Galashiels not only offered a safe space for people of all ages to come together to enjoy all things 'nerdy' but it also offered a haven to the community looking for somewhere to go and feel comfortable.

Whether it was groups playing Dungeons and Dragons, book clubs, community groups, councillor surgeries, or drama groups, Geek Retreat – which opened its doors a year ago – had plenty to offer the town.

However, yesterday (Wednesday, November 30) the store shared to its Facebook page: "With heavy heart, the difficult decision has been taken to close Geek Retreat Galashiels from today until further notice.

"Thank you everyone, for your kindness, support, and laughter.

"It’s been an amazing journey and you, the community, have all made it magical.

"We wish Charlie and the team all the best and it's our hope that this will not be so much a "goodbye" but rather, "see you soon"."

More than 160 people expressed their sadness, with many saying they are "gutted" by the news.
